EDUCATION

Currently, I am studying Esports at Staffordshire university and in my second year. The experience so far has been really good as I have been able to network with people and make friends along the way. Also, I have been able to learn quite a lot within the industry already, learning about cultures within esports and the diversity it brings, creating content, learning how to bring a great experience to an audience and what to look out for, event planning, and strategy, here I am able to learn what goes into making an event and getting the best experience out of it.
From this, it has helped me learn more about the industry and what there still is to learn during my time at university. More specifically content creation has allowed getting better at video editing, it is something I hadn't done before but wanted to learn how to do it. The interviews are good examples of me using the editing skills I have learned from the course.

ARENA TRAINING

Whilst spending time at university me and my classmate's book out the arena so we can run broadcasts, so it gives us a chance to learn how everything works, as there is a lot of equipment to learn for example the Newtek VMC-1, at first it looks daunting as there is a lot of buttons and it is the main control for the broadcast. However, once I learned how to use it, it became a lot simpler and create high-quality broadcasts. Also, in the broadcast room, you can control the audio and the lighting, the lighting sets the environment for the broadcast not just the viewers but also the people in attendance. During the broadcasts, I was a producer for the picture below so I would guide the crew on what to do so the stream runs smoothly.

CASTING

During my time in the arena, I have been able to experience casting, which I really enjoyed as it is something I would like to do as a career so it can help train me to become better. I have been able to use the arena to try and hone my casting skills and expand my knowledge of different games. I and my classmates are using the arena and playing as many different games as we can so the ones we aren't familiar with we are getting used to, this is beneficial to me as it will allow for more opportunities down the line as I won’t just be stuck on Rocket League and Fortnite.

This was a Tekken tournament we were hosting, I had to do research before we started as I had no idea who the characters were and how the game works. I watched some gameplay and had a basic understanding of how the game works, I was also able to learn the character names and their abilities. As said previously it is a great experience as I can expand my knowledge to different games and that freshens things up more me as it's not something I am used to, so overall it is a great learning experience.

Here is some broadcast content from a rocket league tournament, two of us were casting. I was the color caster where I would analyze the game and give my insight into what the players could do. This is something I really enjoy doing and look forward to gaining more experience in that area.
